For years, I’ve been asked the same questions by clients, friends, industry peers, and even strangers standing in line next to me.

How do you know when a room is finished?

Why does my home feel close, but not quite right?

What do designers see that I don’t?

And while I answer these questions every day in consultations and site visits, I realized something important:

There’s a much bigger conversation around design that doesn’t happen in project timelines or Instagram captions. It happens in the grey areas.

That conversation lives in the why.

Why certain spaces feel grounding.

Why some homes instantly feel elevated.

Why good design isn’t about trends, but with intention.

That’s why I’m starting Principally Speaking.

What This Series Is (and Isn’t)

This isn’t a trend report.

It’s not a step-by-step DIY blog.

And it’s definitely not about perfection.

Principally Speaking is a behind-the-scenes look at design through the lens of a Principal Designer, where experience, instinct, and strategy meet.

Here, I’ll be sharing:

• how designers actually think about space

• the decisions clients never see but always feel

• the difference between decorating and designing

• and the small, intentional choices that create a finished home

This is where expertise meets lived-in luxury.

Why This Matters Now

We’re living in our homes more than ever and expecting more from them.

They need to function beautifully, feel restorative, and reflect who we are now! Not who we were when we first moved in.
